Yoquito Turns 1

Yoquito turned one. I had to let baby sister adopt him for a few months now, because my pregnancy. It was hard maintaning him the most, of all the dogs in the house. I'm sure baby sister takes care of him, more than how we could, given the current situation.
Last weekend, we celebrated his birthday by giving him a treat and a new a toy. We played with him for a while and he seemed very happy. Eventhough he's happy with baby sister in his temporary home, he missed us and we miss him a lot as well.

Still pogi?

He we opted for the bald look this time. After three months, it's time for Quito to have his pamper day again.

He was still scared after we picked him up from the pet clinic. After some time, he seemed happy with his new look, plus it's tidier.

He looked like a baby pitbull but for me, he's still "pogi."

Sleeping babies

It's hard to make Yoquito fall asleep. This time perhaps, he just got sleepy because Denden slept first.

Bye Ginger

Because of extra toes on her foot,
she was Ginger to us.
And Shinsher to Ikoy.
It was heartbreaking.
We will miss you.
But as Kuya Shosh said,
"All dogs go to heaven."

Walking the baby

The first time that Yoquito wore his shoes a few months ago, he didn't like it. He just lied on the floor and didn't want to walk, even stand up. Now that he completed his vaccines, we were ready to tag him along every time we go out. So we tried putting a collar and a leash. That, he didn't like either. So I was told that neck collars might harm dog's trachea and might cause respiratory problems especially if your dogs pulls the leash. Or in this case, Yoquito might not want the collars because it's hurting this throat. So, we looked for other options and found the harness. Harnesses go around the neck, in front of the shoulders, and behind the front legs. They are recommended for dogs who are prone to respiratory diseases because they do not put pressure on the throat.

And so, we tried both the harness and the shoes on the baby. At first he was uncomfortable on the shoes, he took big steps as if his feet got bigger. And after some time and was running and jumping inside the house. Then, we put a leash on the harness and brought him out. Yey! He liked it.

First Haircut

To celebrate Yoquito's 6th month, we took him to the pet clinic/salon for his pamper day. His fur has been growing, almost covering his face. I was scared to cut it myself because I might hurt his eyes.

We took him to Pet Express at MOA. The complete pet grooming package included a haircut, bath, cleaning of the ears, nails and teeth. He was recommended the "Summer-cut," about half an inch, as his fur wasn't too tangled to be completely shaved off. It was good because I was having second thoughts of how he'd look if he has no fur.

Being his first time, I know it will be stressful for him. We literally fight everytime I give him a bath or comb his fur. We had to help the "pet groomer" and hold Yoquito because he wouldn't sit/stand still.

Though it was not really a relaxing day for him, he seemed happy afterwards because he can see the world clearer now.

Dog Factory

During the first week of December, Ginger gave birth to six puppies. We call their breed, "Labraskals." Because they are a mixture of Ginger and Gabi, a mongrel and a Labrador.

A few weeks later, it was Casper's turn. She had three. So, for almost two months now, we have been raising nine baby puppies in the house! Plus the four adults and of course, the babiest baby, Yoquito(Yes, I have favoritism.). All in all, we have 14 dogs in the house.

One by one, we're giving the pups away for adoption, it was quite tough taking care of them all, but I can't help it if we're blessed with too many babies (just puppies at this time..).

I agree with Shashing, our house is a dog factory.

Newest baby in the house

Our newest baby just got home this week. I was hesitating to get another dog, even a "higher"-maintenance dog, a Shih-Tzu. But my sister was right! When I saw him, I couldn't resist. He looks just like his dad, thus the name, YOQUITO, QUITOfor short. The only dog who will be staying inside the house, unlike his ate's and kuya's. The babiest of our babies, he is so fluffy, but does not shed. He doesn't bark, but cries when left alone. He was quiet the first few days, but he gets very excited when I let him out and play with the other dogs.

I don't think the other dogs are jealous. Gabi, Sam-sam, Casper, Cotton and Ginger are happy to have him. Surprisingly, knowing how playful-jumpful-runful Gabi is, he was very careful playing with Yoquito.

After a few days, Denden tells me, "Sakristan mo pala si Yoquito." He follows me everywhere I go. Welcome to our growing family, baby quito.

New Year, New Baby

As we welcome the new year, we also welcome a new baby to our growing family. He is small(now), handsome, cuddly and black. Cherub and Nikulet named him Gabi. I call him Gab/Gab-gab.

When we got him, he had a wound on his neck, that's why I chose to take him. But he doesn't seem to care because he is so playful, running around with his new brother and sisters. He has bigger toes, than the three, even if he's still a baby. That's why I like bathing him when his wound healed.

A vaccum cleaner, he eats three times more and three times faster than Casper, Cotton and Ginger. An intelligent dog, I like it when he makes eye contact. He knows he's the baby and we can't resist when he wants to come inside the house and sleep with Denden.

Everytime I go home, I open the door of the car and he immediately climbs up on the driver's seat, wanting to be carried to the passenger's seat. Then he keeps on kissing me, as if saying he missed me.

Can't wait for Gab to grow up. I still love Casper and Cotton, and Ginger. But I admit, Gabi's my favorite.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We have attended a couple of Christmas parties but this is actually the first, that I am really excited. This year, it was a barbecue party courtesy of Kuting’s griller and special marinade, Marge and JR’s fish and special coleslaw and Bubbles’ special chocolate cake.

It turned out to be a dog party as well, because Glico was there.
And Ikoy, though a bit sick, was a special guest due to public demand. Racquel became an “ate” looking after him.

Lastly, it turned our to be a Wii party. Everyone got a chance at the Kung Fu dance.

Gifts. Fun. Friends.
Now, I feel Christmas.

Saturday Night Club

Everytime we pick up Ikoy on Saturday mornings, he would always ask the same question. “Tutulog ba tayo sa bahay ganda nuni?” In an excited, yet, "please-fully" manner, you couldn’t say no. So my sisters and their better halves are all in for the sleepover. Thus, the birth of the Saturday Night Club.

Ikoy has a different set of toys for every house and so he looks forward to playing with Woody and the 101 Dalmatians. He wouldn’t stop playing with Casper, Cotton and Ginger to the point that the dogs themselves, will hide from him. He also likes taking a bath on the shower and would make each of us smell him afterwards claiming, “Lilo ako sa ulan.”

We? We just look forward to every weekend with him. Aside from the coffee, dessert, home cooked brunches, I look forward to a house with more than two people on weekends. And spending quality time with my sisters.

Babies again?

The third batch of Casper’s puppies was born this day. They didn’t even wait until we transferred to the other house. Two new puppies, we call them Bulilit and Ate. How come everything is too easy for Casper and Cotton?

Cous-cous and Ton-ton

Last August 22, the night before Cebu-Bohol Trip, we were surprised when we saw two baby puppies inside Casper and Cotton’s cage. We didn’t even know that Casper was pregnant. And painfully, we had no choice but to leave them for three days. But I had confidence in Casper and Cotton that their puppies will do alright. When we came back, they were all okay.

After more than a month, cute and lovable as they might seem, we have to let both puppies go, with the assurance that they’ll both be in good hands. Goodbye, Cous-cous and Ton ton.

Being A Mommy

I kept on denying to myself that my baby is pregnant. I didn’t really want her to be pregnant because I still think of her as my baby. Even if her tummy is growing big and everybody’s telling that she’s pregnant, I still didn’t want to believe.

I was scared. That I won’t know how to take care of her and her babies. I was afraid that a baby might not survive at birth, I was even more afraid that she might not feed them, or clean them.. they might get sick and I will die if something bad happens to the babies, and even to her.

Last night, when we got home, it was very unusual because both of them weren’t excited. I didn’t hear their usual greeting. As I went inside, he was just sitting on cage, giving me a mesmerized and scared look. As I came nearer, I heard tiny voices, cries. Then I saw her holding her little babies! I was shocked and I panicked! Their small legs are passing through the grilles of the cage, so I called Dennis to take them inside.

Three new lives. Three little white babies. Three little Caspers and Cotton tucked and tangled in their mommy’s legs. Sometimes feeding on their mommy’s milk, crawling.. crying.. then sleeping.

I was proud of Cotton because he was the daddy! But I am even more proud of Casper! She did it! She made it! She brought her babies out, on her own. And she immediately knew how to clean them, feed them, hug them, take care of them.

I was amazed! My baby knew how to be a mommy. Now I know. Being a mommy is an instinct. When you’re baby is there, in front of you, you will know what to do.

This goes out to somebody I know who will soon be a mommy too.
